Measuring
Follow these steps in sequence around your room until you return to the starting point.
Ceiling Height
Note ceiling height and soffit height (if applicable). A soffit is the lower surface of a part of a ceiling that has been built lower, such as to contain an air duct or light fixture. Soffits are more common in older homes.
Wall Length
When measuring a wall, you must also keep in mind the exact size of any wall space that is lost to features such as windows. To ensure accurate measurements, follow these steps.
A. Measure the size of the wall.
B. If there are any windows, measure from the left corner to the window molding.
C. Measure the window itself.
D. Measure from the window molding to the right corner.
NOTE: Measurements "B" "C" and "D" should equal "A"
Important Tips
- Measure in inches only.
- Do not measure your cabinets. Measure your walls as if the room were empty.
- Measure any appliances that you are keeping and note their locations. This will ensure that your new kitchen is compatible with the appliances you intend to use.
- Keep in mind the measurements of any new appliances you plan to add to your kitchen. For example, a refrigerator needs at least 1/2" to 1" of clearance on both sides. If you are not sure, obtain the exact measurements and clearance specifications of your new appliances before you begin.

You typically only need a tape measure, a pencil, and paper to sketch your layout. A level and a smartphone camera can also help capture wall conditions, obstacles, and reference photos.
Measure wall lengths, ceiling height, window and door positions, and the location of plumbing, outlets, and appliances. Recording these details helps ensure cabinets fit correctly within your available space.
Our design team reviews your submitted measurements before finalizing any cabinet configuration. If something appears inconsistent, we will reach out to confirm details and help prevent errors before production begins.
If possible, measure after old cabinets are removed so you can access the full wall dimensions. If they are still installed, measure visible spaces carefully and include notes about any obstructions.
